The Australian Property Developers Association Inc expresses its full support for the call to establish a Commonwealth Royal Commission into anti-semitism, radicalisation, and the circumstances that led to the Bondi tragedy.
On 14 December 2025, like every other Australian, we were utterly shocked and horrified as fifteen innocent people lost their lives at a community gathering in one of Australiaโs most public and trusted spaces. This was not only a profound human tragedy. It was a national failure that demands a national response.
Our members plan, build, and steward places where millions of Australians gather every year. Town centres, retail precincts, mixed-use developments, transport-oriented hubs, entertainment districts, and public realm spaces form the backbone of Australian public life. With that privilege comes a responsibility to uphold the highest standards of safety, preparedness, and social cohesion.
A Commonwealth Royal Commission is not about assigning blame. It is about accountability through truth. It is about confronting failures, understanding how and why they occurred, and ensuring meaningful change so that Australians can gather in public spaces without fear, now and in the generations to come.

Public safety is not only a moral responsibility. It is also a core risk management imperative for developers, asset owners, venue operators, insurers, financiers, and governments who collectively enable Australiaโs shared places.
APDA is among the first peak bodies representing the built environment sector to publicly support this national call for a Commonwealth Royal Commission.
APDA therefore adds its voice to the growing national call:
